Pakamalan Ke Ing SM City Pampanga

SM CITY PAMPANGA: A DECADE OF EMBRACING KAPAMPANGAN CULTURE

SM City Pampanga celebrates ten years of being part of every Kapampangan's lifestyle as it holds its 10th Anniversary celebration starting November 12 to December 7, 2010.

It was a decade ago when the very first SM Supermall in Central Luzon opened on November 10, 2000. The grand opening of SM City Pampanga made history when thousands of shoppers welcomed the mall causing massive traffic in two municipalities, San Fernando and Mexico, reaching all the way to North Luzon Expressway.

Seeing its early success, SM Group’s chairman and founder Mr. Henry Sy, Sr at once opted to add a mall extension, the Building 2 which opened on October 2002. Still due to high demands and feasibility, Building 3 and the Newest Wing were built and opened on October 2003 and November 2007, respectively.

Record holder of the longest and biggest mall in the region with more than 820 meters sprawl of mall shopping area, and the largest SM Supermalls land area for a total of 31.6 hectares, SM City Pampanga houses popular food, apparel and services shops and also Pampanga's homegrown tenants.

Gala Night for Tenants

SM City Pampanga honored its tenants in a 10th Anniversary Gala night, showcasing the mall’s mix of the best homegrown, national, and international brands.

The event highlighted the Kampampangan’s business acumen through its homegrown tenants, some of whom like Ronald Pineda of Folded & Hung and Genoveva Gozum of Genevieve Gozum have grown into dynamic national brands.

City officials from Mexico and San Fernando – Councilors Ruping Dumalo and Alex Pablo and City Administrator Fer Caylao, Barangay Engineer Nestor Reyes and Jess Punzalan joined SM’s Regional Operations Manager for North Luzon Cesar Bondoc, AVP for Marketing Tina Adriano, and Mall Manager Lana Erroba in honoring the mall’s tenants.

Brillante Mendoza Comes Home with a Film Festival

SM CITY PAMPANGA STAGES BRILLANTE MENDOZA FILM FESTIVAL
Pampanga is home of the best artists in the country. It has a long artistic tradition – from comic strip creator/writer turned director and producer Carlo J. Caparas and modern Filipino painter and printmaker Benedicto “Bencab” Cabrera, who have their roots in Pampanga, to the first Filipino to win the Cannes International Film Festival for Best Director Brillante Mendoza.

His films are alive and well today through a small independent production outfit called Centerstage Productions. CSP is a group of independent filmmakers who have brought honors to the country via feature films that won several awards and recognition in prestigious film festival here and abroad.

As SM City Pampanga culminates its 10th Anniversary celebration, it honors its homegrown film artist Brillante Mendoza through a film festival of his four multi-awarded films on December 6 & 7 at Cinema 6.

His subsequent films won further major international awards. MANORO (The Aeta Teacher, 2006) won the CinemAvvenir at the Torino Film Festival 2006 and Best Picture and Director Awards at the Cinemanila 2006. KALELDO (Summer Heat) won the Netpac Award in Jeonju 2007 and the Best Actress Awards in Durban 2007. FOSTER CHILD won the Best Actress award in New Delhi in 2007, Special Jury Award in Kazakhstan 2007, the Signis Award in Las Palmas 2008, Best Picture and Actress Awards in Durban 2008. LOLA won the Grand Knight Award equivalent to the Grand Jury Prize in the world competition category of the 27th Miami International Film Festival in the US.

Well-attended by schools in the province namely Dominican School of Mexico, ICT High School in Sindalan and one of the biggest school in the province, Pampanga High School, where former president Diosdado P. Macapagal was among its graduates. An interactive Q&A after every film was done wherein the students actively participated and asked from the simplest to the complex questions to the director who happily answered all their queries.
A photo opportunity where the students willingly posed with Brillante Mendoza as he “directs” them on how to pose on the wall to make an illusion of being part of the film.

After the film showing of the students, an after-party took place at the lobby where important guests like Board Members Monz Laus and Trina Dizon graced the event. Also present are Malou Garbes, member of IMAarti group; Tonette Orejas, correspondent of Philippine Daily Inquirer; Rem Prin, President of Art Association of the Philippines Angeles Chapter; and Lana Erroba, Mall Manager of SM City Pamapnga who each read the synopsis of the four films showcased on the event. Leading the ribbon cutting is SM's Vice President for Marketing Communications Group and Publicity, Millie F. Dizon who have put together the prestigious event.

Kapampangan Artistry

As SM City Pampanga celebrates its 10th Year in business, it also celebrate and gives honor to the rich culture the province offers and takes a great pride on.

Through Artist Association of the Philippines City of San Fernando and Angeles Chapter and SM City Pampanga's support to the rich culture of Pampanga, they have brought art closer to the Kapampangans. Gathered in one exhibit over 30 artists participated displaying each art which strongly suggest the richness of the culture.

Held at Building 4, Exhibit Area of SM City Pampanga on November 16, shoppers warmly welcomed the exhibit as they go through one artwork to another. What's more, shoppers are stopped on their tracks for they were fascinated as the artists did an on-the-spot painting and sketching.

Honoring the ribbon cutting is Hon. Mayor Oca Rodriguez of City of San Fernando joined by SM VP for Marketing Millie F. Dizon, SM City Pampanga Assistant Mall Manager Lana Erroba and SM Regional Operations Manager for North Luzon Mr. Cesar Bondoc.

Pattern-clashing scarves in eclectic geo-florals take centre stage, backed up by embroidered heritage bags with tassels and gem stone enhancement.
Colours are spicy and exotic, drawing influence from the far-away lands of Persia and the Ottoman Empire. Sheepskin & shearling debut in this range and emphasis is drawn on gold; both brushed and bright alike.

How much hotdog can you eat?

On the recent celebration of Father's Day, Pampanga's Best sponsored a Hotdog Eating Contest at SMPP. It's shocking that there are a couple of dads with their kids who can gulped down 8 jumbo hotdogs in 1 min!
But an officemate of mine can eat 5 of these in one standing. (yes Lloyd, that's you dude)
The contestants were not the only one who enjoyed the free hotdogs.
(L to R: Lloyd, Ryan, Jeremy, Ukrain, Joy and Rey)

We helped ourselves to unlimited hotdog at the backstage. Yum! Maybe we should have more of this event hehe

That's the same hotdog I've been holding in all photos :p I can't seem to finish it coz it's quite... big. :p

No more dinner for them after this. They lost count on the hotdog they ate that the event ran out of hotgods for the contestants. :p See?? im still holding the same hotdog :p infairness it was delish!

More

Impromptu picture taking at LOE's office. (i look stupid, i know) anyway, these are my new officemates here at SMPP.
Now this is more like it. :)

My Press Releases with SMPP

This was a fun day. My first media outing with Pampanga and Bulacan media with my PR group from Marilao, Baliwag and Clark. This event was the Sky Garden Safari Tour in SM North Edsa. We arrived so early in the morning that we were able to tour ourselves even without the tour guide (hehe) For lunch, we ate at Gerry's grill and played bowling afterwards. We were very tired but the day's not over yet, we had to go back to Clark for an Senior-cruzan event. (whew.)

New Old Career

It's my 2nd week in my new work here in Pampanga. So far so good. I get to do media relations stuff again. Still learning the ropes and feeling lost most of the times but that's normal (I think).

The consolation of my work now as a PRO is that the media people here in Pampanga are all very kind and accomodating. I became good friends with all of them in an instant. Not that I have no media friends nationally, I have -- a lot. It's just that so many PR agencies and corporations in the metro that the media cannot accomodate all of us in their paper as much as they would want to or even come to all the events they're invited in. (If you could just imagine how many press releases and events they get in a day >.<>

On both accounts, It's nice to start my day seeing the newspaper with our event in full-color and most of the time even in front page. :) It makes me look forward to more events (yeah i know, the preparation period takes longer than the event perse) and seeing my media friends again takling about anything and everything.
